Exclusive: BlackBerry L-Series detailed in official RIM document

TechRadar can exclusively reveal the specifications of the first fully touchscreen BlackBerry 10 smartphone after we got hold of some official Research In Motion (RIM) documentation.

The slides we've seen are part of RIM's training document for its new BB 10 operating system aimed at educating sales reps on the system.

One of the slides is titled "specifications of the BlackBerry 10 L-Series" and lists various specifications of the handset including a 4.2-inch, 1280x768 HD display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and an 1,800mAh battery.

Cameras and connectivity

The L-Series handset, which is rumoured to launch under the moniker BlackBerry Z10 will also sport two cameras.

A front-facing 2MP lens will offer users a 2x digital zoom and 720p video recording – useful for video calls and the odd vanity check, while round the back the Z10 is equipped with an 8MP snapper with single LED flash, auto focus, 1080p video recording and 5x digital zoom.

RIM has always offered a decent array of connectivity options on its smartphones and the L-Series is no different packing Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4G and NFC – a few boxes ticked.

These specifications fall in line with the rumours which have been doing the rounds and the video which appeared yesterday supposedly showing the first hands on with the L-Series smartphone.

From London to Liverpool

If all that wasn't enough it appears that the L-Series will arrive in four different guises around the world to cope with the various network frequencies.

The BlackBerry London will be the only non-4G variant with support for 21Mbps HSPA+, while the BlackBerry Laguna, BlackBerry Lisbon and BlackBerry Liverpool will all feature LTE technology.

The information says these specs are subject to change, so could alter slightly before final release, so stay tuned for when BlackBerry 10 will be officially unveiled on January 30 when we expect RIM to also reveal the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry X10 handsets.
