New images have cropped up online apparently showing the Sony Xperia SP side by side with the mid-range Sony Xperia V.
Sony announced its latest flagship device in the form of the Xperia Z at CES 2013 last month and the Japanese firm looks set to add to this new range with the Xperia SP, possibly at MWC 2013.
If the pictures picked up by German site Android Hilfe are to be believed the Xperia SP will look very similar to the Xperia Z in terms of design, while internally it won't be quite so powerful.

According to the report the Sony Xperia SP will feature a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and 720p display - a downgrade from the quad-core chip and full HD screen found on the Xperia Z.
Snaps taken of the settings menu reveals the phone shown in the photo is running Andorid 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and features the model number C5303.
Further rumours suggest the Sony Xperia SP will feature a removable storage option like the Xperia ZL variant of Sony's flagship device, but the battery will still be locked away in the chassis.
If the Sony Xperia SP is the real deal, we expect it to be unveiled at MWC 2013 at the end of the month, and we'll be there to bring you all the news as it happens.
